03.19.06 - It has been brought to my attention that Microsoft Internet Explorer for Mac has basically been taken off the internet. This is only a problem because so many web developers (especially those in charge of corporate financial websites) build sites to work well only in Internet Explorer. This is because Internet Explorer supports specific bits of code that are unique to Microsoft browsers, much to the chagrin of everybody who values world standards in web design (you know, normal things like valid XHTML and CSS). Anyway, enough ranting, what I want to say is that I'll be hosting a copy of the last version of Microsoft's silly browser for Mac here on my site until asked to do otherwise by someone in charge of things.
11.12.05 - Basically, the STO hates you. Doesn't help that they have a terrible and image-heavy website that takes forever to load and then malfunctions half the time. So I just selected one frame that allows one to look up bus times, this loads quick enough and actually shows a whole page of information instead of the usual half-info-and-scroll-bar-half-white-space-of-doom. Enjoy. Oh, and I managed to mod a screen-dead eMac into a fairly standard PC ATX case, using an ATX power supply, standard hard drive and CDRW/DVD combo, as well as the PC case's original front USB, power cable and rear fan. Probably the first one in Canada, though not quite the first in existence (maybe the third or fourth).
09.30.05 - Happy birthday, Dad. Also, I have decided once and for all that I absolutely hate designing web pages. Maybe it's the software involved, maybe it's the fact that it's two-dimensional, all I know is that I am pretty sure that I don't want to ever design another webpage for anyone else, unless of course there's a substantial amount of money trying to change my mind. So for now I'm going to stick with industrial design and Mac or PC tech support and teaching for those who need it.
09.14.05 - I made a search engine that searches multiple other engines in various categories on a single page. Try it out, it's still in very early beta stage. If you have any suggestions for other engines that I should add feel free to email.
08.23.05 - Officially back in business. It seems that I will be doing the web design for Impulse Outdoor Media, one of those companies that runs trucks with signs on them around cities advertising stuff. Unfortunately, since it's kind of a "family" thing, I still don't get paid. It should be fairly interesting as the client is expecting something of corporate quality, but I somehow doubt that I'm capable of doing that.
08.23.05 - It's been a while. I finished the web design page including the rollovers, previews and all pages. It's basically my portfolio of web design experience, documenting all from the very first site to the most recent. I will be posting various design projects and inventions over the next few days in the industrial design section. I may even finally photograph the enigmatic Scuzbuster device that must have confused many of you out there. I have also added the computer consulting page, yet another useful service at a modest rate. I've also written a bit in my quasi-blog section for those who consider such rantings interesting. And I know how to play Funkytown on a phone keypad: 55754 45085. Simple little tune. More complicated ones (mostly junk) on the phone songs page. It's 2:30AM, I am going to sleep now. Goodnight!
03.22.05 - Well hello there. A few weeks ago Viki showed me this amusing clip
of a chubby young man dancing to a Romanian pop hit. There was only one problem
with it, every few seconds the video would cut to an image of some idiot making
an odd face. This sucked, I don't care about those morons, I want to see the
dude lip synching to the music. So using high-tech tools of advanced data acquisition
(read: google) I tracked down (i.e. clicked a link to) the original movie, minus
the interrupting dweebs. This one is
just the guy dancing.
Now for a history lesson. The guy's name is Gary Brolsma, he lives somewhere
in the Jersey suburbs. Here's a decent
article on the clip, notice when it was published and how out of date we
are. The song is, as the article says, O-Zone’s
“Dragostea Din Tei”; these guys appear to be a boy band from Romania,
something like N'sync but cooler. And it probably helps that we can't understand
the words.
03.16.05 - Hmm. Should have posted this sooner. The magazine went well, seems popular judging by the number of copies that were taken from newsstands (it's free, taken is a good thing). I'm officially the Production Manager of a small sports magazine. Big words are fun, but the whole team has worked very hard on this first edition. Check out the site at www.thesportsnut.ca (yes, I am building that page, it'll be light and fast when it's done). This site has two new sections up, interests and odd things. I wouldn't really bother looking now, there isn't much content, but it should be noted that they are up.
02.14.05 - The Sports Nut is almost done. The covers are already in at the printers, but here's the rest of the magazine for your viewing pleasure. Also I got a haircut.
02.11.05 - Quick update, the magazine is going quite well, the covers are already
being printed (or they should be being printed anyway, I've sent them off to Performance
Printing).
Also it seems as though I may end up in a movie (hello Yves) as a sort of James
Bond knockoff, the only differences being that I'll be an inept indian guy. Look
for it in theaters everywhere sometime before summer. Oh, and some press photos
for the aformentioned movie can be downloaded here, though
I caution you, it is a 11MB file.
12.01.05 - Happy new year (as arbitrary as the date is) to you all. Work on the magazine continues, here is the lates and greatest cover.
12.23.04 - I'm now the graphic designer for a new sports magazine in Ottawa. You can take a look at the cover and the rate card.
12.13.04 - The site is back, and (I like to think, anyway) better than ever. Check back at different times of the day, and Alex, if you're up at 3AM it looks even cooler. Over the next few days or so I'll be photogramphing things that I have made or drawn and putting these photos in the industrial design section of the site. I wouldn't consider the things I dream up as art, but they're not engineering (usually) so they seem to fall within the vague boundaries of industrial design. If you have any suggestions as to how I may improve this site (design or otherwise) drop me an email.
